TOC Has 24 Candidates for Board Thus Far

A nomination-by-petition process extends through Jan. 31, the organization said.

The Thoroughbred Owners of California Jan. 27 identified 24 nominees for its 2012 election for the board of directors.

The nominees, along with those who qualify to run for the board through the nomination-by-petition process, will make up the ballot for an open election to fill all 15 seats on the TOC board, the organization said.

The nomination-by-petition process closes Jan. 31. The names of candidates qualifying by petition will be announced at that time.

The 24 candidates nominated are Madeline Auerbach, Bob Baffert, Dennis Cardoza, Jim Cassidy, Will DeBurgh, Mark Dedomenico, Dennis Grenier, Gloria Haley, Mike Harrington, Allan Kirkwood, George Krikorian, Ron McAnally, Ed Moger, Kevin Nish, Jack Owens, Pete Parrella, Mike Pegram, Keith Pronske, John Sadler, George Schmitt, Pablo Suarez, George Todaro, Kathy Walsh, and David Wilson.

The TOC said it expects ballots and candidate statements to be mailed out Feb. 15 to all members. The postmark deadline to return ballots is March 15, and following a vote tally by an independent auditor, the newly elected board will be seated in April.

“We see this election as another positive step in California racing as we put the issues that have been divisive to the industry behind us and move forward together toward a new era of cooperation,” TOC president Lou Raffetto Jr. said.
