Sunland Hosts Fundraiser for Jacky Martin

Legendary Quarter Horse rider was seriously injured in fall last September.

Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino is hosting a Jacky Martin fundraiser now through Feb. 26 to support efforts in assisting the legendary seven-time All American Futurity-winning rider with his rehabilitation progress.

Fans are asked to place a wager or any type of donation for Martin in the barrels located throughout the facility. A special Quarter Horse feature race will be named in Martin’s honor Feb. 26. Wagers placed for Martin’s cause can be any denomination from any racetrack.

Long considered one of Quarter Horse racing’s greatest riders, Martin was seriously injured in a spill at Ruidoso Downs. Martin was left paralyzed in the Sept. 2 fall when his horse, Phire Power, broke down after the finish of a race. Prior to the accident, he had qualified eventual All American Futurity winner Ochoa.

Martin’s extensive rehabilitation has been extremely costly. Monetary donations can be sent directly to: Jacky Martin – Tracey Martin Special Account, Ft. Gibson State Bank, P.O. Box 130, Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma  74434. Contact: Susan Chapman at (918) 478-2437.
