The Hong Kong International races on Sunday will be shown on TVG beginning at 2 a.m. (ET). The special 2 1/2 hour telecast will include live coverage the group I Hong Kong Cup, group I Hong Kong Vase, and group I Hong Kong Mile, and tape delayed coverage of the group II Hong Kong Sprint. All races are on turf.
Topping the field in the $2.4 million Hong Kong Cup is the European-based Grandera. Owned by Godolphin Racing, Grandera has won three group I events this year, including the Irish Champion Stakes. Ridden by Frankie Detorri, Grandera was recently named Europe's top older horse for 2002.
The Hong Kong Mile lost 2002 Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) champ Domedriver to injury, but still boasts a strong field of 13 horses, including Godolphin's Noverre and the American entry, Cayoke.
A field of 14 horses led by France's Aquarelliste, a triple group I winner, is expected in the Hong Kong Vase.
Fourteen horses should also go to the post in the in the Hong Kong Sprint, led by the Australian entry, Falvelon, going for a third straight win in the event. Shipping in from the U.S. is Texas Glitter, who will be ridden by Edgar Prado.
