Sand Cove, the 2010 Canadian champion older male, died Feb. 13 from complications from laminitis.
The 7-year-old son of Bold Executive had been scheduled to enter stud at James and Janeane Everatt’s Shannondoe Farm near St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, alongside fellow incoming stallion Society's Chairman . Prior to the start of the breeding season, Sand Cove and Society’s Chairman were stabled at the Everatts’ Colton Springs Farm near Paris, Ky., to take advantage of the mild winter.
Bred by the Everatts and their daughter, Arika Everatt-Meeuse, Sand Cove raced for Ralph L. Johnson and was trained by Roger Attfield. Sand Cove won the Seagram Cup, the Sir Barton, the Overskate, and the Steady Growth stakes the year of his championship. He won five other stakes during his career including the 2011 Steady Growth. He was retired with a record of 12-5-7 from 36 starts and earnings of $1,029,631.
Sand Cove was produced from the winning Mythical Ruler mare Mythical Status.
According to Everatt-Meeuse, Society’s Chairman, a two-time stakes winner, has entered stud at Shannondoe and is doing well.
