A son of Johannesburg was the fastest worker at an eighth of a mile during the first session of the under tack show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March select sale of 2-year-olds in training. The colt covered the distance in :9 4/5 over the OBS track’s synthetic Safetrack surface March 8 in Central Florida.
Consigned by Old South Farm, agent, the bay juvenile is out of the unraced Carson City mare Quiet City. He is a half brother to three winners, including Quiet Delight (by Grindstone), who finished second in the 2003 CERF Handicap at Del Mar, and Veneti (by Old Trieste), who was second in the 2007 Alyssum Stakes at Belmont Park and third in the 2009 Retama Park Distaff Stakes.
Old South’s Albert Davis purchased the fast-working colt as a weanling for $40,000 from Nardelli Sales, agent, at the 2010 Keeneland November breeding stock auction. The juvenile is Hip No. 93 in the OBS March sale’s catalog.
A son of Bluegrass Cat and a Montbrook colt were the quickest at a quarter mile, each turning in a time of :20 4/5.
Derby Dreams, agent, is the consignor of the Bluegrass Cat juvenile, which is Hip No. 44 in the OBS March sale catalog. The bay colt is the second foal out of the unraced Unbridled's Song mare Mesmerizing Lady, who is a half sister to grade III winner Spring Meadow (by Meadowlake). Just for Fun Stables bought the colt for $49,000 from Kaizen Sales, agent for Whisper Hill Farm, at the 2011 OBS August yearling sale.
Ocala Stud, agent, is the consignor of the dark bay or brown Montbrook colt, which is Hip No. 58 in the OBS March sale catalog. He is a half brother to the winner Northern Cotton (by High Cotton). Their winning dam, My Golden Quest (by Coronado's Quest), finished second in the 2007 Eatontown Staybridge Suites Stakes at Monmouth Park.
The second session of the under tack show is scheduled for March 9, beginning at 8 a.m. (EST). The OBS March auction will be held March 13 and 14, with each session starting at 11 a.m. (EDT).
