Florida Barn Fire Ruled an Accident

The probable cause of the blaze at McKathan Farms was electrical.

A barn fire that killed nine horses at McKathan Farms near Reddick, Fla., April 1, was ruled an accident, according to a story on the Ocala Star-Banner newspaper’s website (www.ocala.com) April 2.

Jessica Greene, a spokeswoman for Marion County Fire Rescue, told the publication that the probable cause of the blaze was electrical, based on a determination made by a fire marshal with fire resecue.

Eight horses were saved by farm workers and a neighbor, the Star-Banner reported, but three of the animals were injured. One worker suffered first-degree and second-degree burns, but refused medical treatment.
