Saturday is the best day of racing at Aqueduct's fall meet. The grade I, $350,000 Cigar Mile features the best milers in the country, while the grade II, $200,000 Remsen is an important stop on the road to next year's Kentucky Derby, as 2-year-olds will go nine furlongs around two turns. Two-year-old fillies will also be running for $200,000 in the Remsen's counterpart, the grade II Demoiselle.
It is an especially big day for trainer Bobby Frankel, whose horses have earned nearly $17 million this year. A big day Saturday, coupled with a strong effort by Lido Palace in Friday's Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs, would go a long way to help Frankel in his quest to break the all-time, single-year earnings record of $17,842,358 set by Hall of Fame trainer D.
Wayne Lukas in 1988. Through Tuesday, Frankel's earnings this year were $16,618,284.The field for Saturday's graded stakes at Aqueduct:Demoiselle Stakes (gr. II), 1 1/8 miles, 2-year-old fillies:PP.--HORSE/TRAINER/JOCKEY/WGT.
