Quiet Oasis won the Wilshire Handicap on April 29.
J. Paul Reddam’s Quiet Oasis, an upset winner in her first start of 2012, will seek to keep it going when she returns to grade I stakes company in the $250,000 Gamely Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park May 28.
Reddam owns I'll Have Another  , who on June 9 will attempt to become the first horse to win the Triple Crown since 1978. The colt’s rider, Mario Gutierrez, has the call aboard Quiet Oasis in the Gamely, a 1 1/8-mile turf race for fillies and mares that attracted a field of eight.
The Memorial Day program includes the grade III Los Angeles Handicap.
Quiet Oasis, a 4-year-old Oasis Dream filly bred in Ireland, has done well at shorter distances in her career, which began in Great Britain. She shipped to the United States for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs, and then raced three times in California in 2011.
In her final start last year Quiet Oasis finished sixth in the grade I Matriarch Stakes at one mile on the turf at Hollywood Park. In her 2012 debut April 29, the filly won the grade III Wilshire Handicap at one mile on the grass at 15-1 under Gutierrez, who rode her for the first time in that race.
Trained by Ben Cecil, Quiet Oasis has three wins in eight starts. She drew post 2 in the Gamely and will carry 117 pounds.
Cambina and Nereid, who dead-heated for the win in last year’s American Oaks (gr. IT) at Hollywood Park, are entered in the Gamely. Neither has won a race since the Oaks, held last July, but they are the only two grade I winners in the field and seem to fit the Gamely distance.
Cambina, a 4-year-old Hawk Wing filly owned by Anthony Bilich, Jason and Steven Cline, Rick Mace, Dennis Rahill, and George Schmitt, finished second in the grade II Santa Barbara Handicap at Santa Anita Park in her last start. Rafael Bejarano rides from post 5 at 119 pounds for trainer Jeff Bonde.
Nereid, a 4-year-old filly Rock Hard Ten filly owned by Eric Kronfield and trained by John Shirreffs, was fourth in the Wilshire behind Quiet Oasis. Mike Smith has the mount from post 8 at 119 pounds.
