First Starter a Winner for Big Brown

Ruby Brown, daughter of Derby victor, wins easily by three lengths in Russia June 15.

Big Brown , winner of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) in 2008, was represented by his first winner June 15 at Kazan International Equestrian Complex and Race Track in Russia, Three Chimneys Farm announced June 22.

Ruby Brown, a 2-year-old filly out of the Red Ransom mare Truly Ruby, was making her racing debut, which was also the first start by any progeny of Big Brown. She won easily by three widening lengths in a 1,000-meter maiden event.

Bred by Coffee Pot Stables and The Big Brown Syndicate, Ruby Brown was ridden by jockey Mirbek Mamurov and is trained by Marat Kozhomzharov. Consigned by Beau Lane Bloodstock, agent, she was a $15,000 yearling at the 2011 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and was purchased by Stella Prima.

"We're thrilled about Big Brown's first runner being a winner, and we're hearing exciting updates about the Big Browns in training, some of which are coming up to their first start in the coming weeks," said Three Chimneys president Case Clay.

Eclipse Champion Big Brown is represented by his first 2-year-olds this year. He was the leading freshman sire at Fasig-Tipton’s July yearling sale in 2011 and was represented by a colt, out of Cool Ghoul, who sold for $1.3 million earlier this year at the Fasig-Tipton March 2-year-old sale.
