First U.S. Winner for Champion Big Brown

Big Brown's first U.S. winner scores at Churchill Downs

Champion Big Brown  came up with his first North American winner when his daughter Brown Eyes Blue won at Churchill Downs in her initial outing. The 2-year-old filly captured a six-furlong maiden special weight race by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:12.21 June 30. She is owned by Twin Creeks Racing Stable.

Twin Creeks Racing bought Brown Eyes Blue for $180,000  at the Keeneland April sale of 2-year-olds in training from Eddie Woods, agent.

Bred in Kentucky by Nick and Rosemary Lotz in partnership with Big Brown Syndicate, Brown Eyes Blue is the first foal out of the Silver Ghost mare Golden Lips, who is a half sister to graded stakes winners Hotstufanthensomeand Silver Charades.

Big Brown, whose first winner Ruby Brown won in Russia, captured the 2008 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) the year he was champion 3-year-old male. Big Brown (Boundary—Mien, by Nureyev) stands at Robert N. Clay’s Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. His 2012 fee was $35,000.
