Travers Logo Depicts Horse, Jockey on Canoe

143rd running of race for 3-year-olds will be renewed Aug. 25.

The logo for the 143rd running of the Travers Stakes (gr. I), unveiled July 13 by the New York Racing Association, features a horse and jockey on top of the signature Travers canoe.

Since 1961 the colors of the Travers winner’s racing silks have been painted on the canoe located in a pond in the lush Saratoga Race Course infield. This year’s logo was designed by Kevin Creative.

The $1 million Travers (gr.I) is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25. Known as the “Midsummer Derby,” the 1 1/4-mile race was first run in 1864 and is the oldest major stakes race in the country for 3-year-olds.
