HOY Havre de Grace to be Sold at Fasig-Tipton

Owner Rick Porter honors commitment made to Lexington sales company.

Havre de Grace, the 2011 Horse of the Year who was retired earlier this year after sustaining an injured ligament, will be sold at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky breeding stock sale in Lexington Nov. 5.

Rick Porter, who raced the daughter of Saint Liam in the name of his Fox Hill Farm, said on his website that he had committed more than a year ago to sell the mare at Fasig-Tipton, although he had been actively recruited by Keeneland representatives to put her in that sales company’s breeding stock sale.

"I have decided to enter Havre de Grace in the Fasig-Tipton November Sale this year," Porter said in a statement. "I had been planning on selling her there for some time..."

Porter said the 5-year-old mare is "doing terrific" at Taylor Made Farm and "will be a collector’s item for some lucky owner."

Havre de Grace won nine of her 16 races and earned $2,586,175. Included among her seven stakes victories were the Woodward Stakes (gr. I), Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I), and Beldame Invitational Stakes (gr. I), all in 2011 when she was champion older female in addition to being honored as Horse of the Year.
