Santa Anita to Host 2013 Breeders' Cup

The Southern California track is gearing up to host two Breeders' Cups in succession.

Santa Anita Park, which hosted the Breeders' Cup as recently as 2009 and is hosting this year's edition, will also host the 2013 Breeders' Cup, pending the approval of a final host site agreement, according to Daily Racing Form. The final contract details will have to be worked out and approved by the Breeders' Cup board.

Santa Anita previously hosted the Breeders' Cup in 1986, 1993, 2003, and 2008-09. The Southern California track will host this year's running Nov. 2-3.

A Breeders' Cup spokesman, Jim Gluckson, said "it is Breeders' Cup policy not to comment on host track selection until the process has been completed."

Santa Anita was identified as the 2013 host site over Churchill Downs and Monmouth Park, the only other tracks that applied. Monmouth Park held the event in 2007. Churchill has held the Breeders' Cup eight times, most recently in 2011.
