Golden Gate Starts Short Summer Meet Aug. 17

The 17-day stand runs through Sept. 5 and begins with a twilight program at 3:45 p.m.

Golden Gate Fields opens its brief 2012 summer meeting Aug. 17 with a “Happy Hour” racing program that features half-price admission, food and drink specials, and live music between races. Post time for the eight-race opener is 3:45 p.m.

The 17-day summer session runs through Sept. 16, with racing conducted on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule. There will be special racing cards on Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day), and Wednesday, Sept. 5 (closing day at Del Mar).

Post time at the summer meeting is 1:15 p.m. with the exception of Fridays in August, when “Happy Hour” racing begins at 3:45 p.m.

The first three Saturdays of the meeting (Aug. 18 and 25, and Sept. 1) have been designated as Family Fun Days. Golden Gate Fields will offer many free activities for kids, including a zip line, rock climbing wall, obstacle courses, and bounce houses. Kids are admitted free to the track and the activities will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

Every Sunday during the season Golden Gate Fields will offer $1 specials on general parking, general admission, programs, beers, hot dogs and sodas, and will also offer a free live concert. The lineup for the summer concert series is as follows: Tainted Love, Aug. 19; The Department Of Rock, Aug. 26; Love Fool, Sept. 2; Filipino Music Fest, Sept. 9; and The Cheeseballs, Sept. 16.
