New Magazine to Benefit Old Friends

Entire gross sales of magazine will support horse retirement efforts.

Daily Racing Form has announced the release of Old Friends magazine, designed to raise funds for the Old Friends retirement center based in Georgetown, Ky., and a division in New York.

According to a release, the magazine has a cover price of $10, with 100% of the gross sales dedicated to Old Friends for its Thoroughbred retirement programs in Georgetown and Cabin Creek Farm in Greenfield Center, N.Y. Old Friends president and founder Michael Blowen said the goal is to raise $200,000 from the magazine sales.

The 80-page color magazine includes photographs by Barbara Livingston and commentary by Jay Hovdey and Glenye Cain Oakford. Among the lifetime past performances in the magazine are the 22-win streak by Rapid Redux and the 100-race losing streak of Zippy Chippy.

The magazine will be available for purchase at the Old Friends community table at Saratoga Race Course on Travers Day, Aug. 25, beginning at 10:30 a.m. (EDT). The magazine is also available online at the Old Friends website.
