Dunkirk Colt Leads Way at Iowa Mixed Sale

The bay yearling, a member of his sire's first crop, brings $36,000 Aug. 26.

A Dunkirk colt brought $36,000 to top the Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association fall mixed sale Aug. 26 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. David Anderson purchased the bay yearling.

A member of his sire's first crop, the colt is the first live foal produced from the winning Forestry mare Treetop Shock. She is a half sister to two stakes-placed winners, All Electric (by Grand Slam) and Electric Chant (by War Chant).

The yearling’s second dam, Electric Shock (by Cure the Blues), won the 1998 Maid of the Mist Stakes at Belmont Park.

Clifton Farm, the consignor of the sale-topper, bred him in partnership with Burden Creek Farm in Iowa.

The results of the auction included a gross of $225,100 for the 26 horses that were sold. The average price was $8,658 and the median price was $5,100. The buy-back rate was 35%.
