Three Chimneys to Stand Brilliant Speed

Grade I winner by Dynaformer will take sire's place at Three Chimneys.

Brilliant Speed, a grade I-winning son of Dynaformer, will stand at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm upon retirement in partnership with Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Stud.

Three Chimneys purchased a significant interest in Brilliant Speed prior to his third-place finish in the Sword Dancer Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) at Saratoga Race Course Aug. 18.

"We've already had several inquiries from breeders interested in purchasing shares in him," said Case Clay, president of Three Chimneys, which is located near Midway, Ky., and stood Dynaformer. "For years we've said that when Dynaformer's reign has ended, filling his stall is going to be a tall order. With his pedigree, looks, and a grade I win under his belt, Brilliant Speed is uniquely situated to pick up the torch."

"Dynaformer is one of the stallions we have been most proud of making, starting with a very reasonable stud fee and becoming one of the best stallions in the world." Clay added. "With a grade I-winning son of Dynaformer retiring to Three Chimneys, we're going to try and do it again with the support of Live Oak as a partner, as well as a small group of shareholders."

Aside from winning the $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland, Brilliant Speed also won the Saranac Stakes (gr. IIIT) and placed in such stakes as the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), the Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT), the Jamaica Handicap (gr. IT) and this year's Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes (gr. IT).

"I am very pleased that Brilliant Speed will be standing at Three Chimneys," Weber said. "We are proud to be associated with the entire team and look forward to the challenge of hopefully filling the void left by Dynaformer."

Out of the Gone West mare Speed Succeeds, Brilliant Speed is a product of the Hail to Reason/Mr. Prospector cross. Hail to Reason is the great-grandsire of Brilliant Speed, and Mr. Prospector is Gone West's sire. While Brilliant Speed proved to have the stamina to go a mile and a half, some of his biggest performances came at nine furlongs. He traces back to the powerful Happy Mood female line responsible for such major winners as With Approval, Touch Gold, Discreetly Mine, Discreet Cat, and Awesome Maria.

A stud fee for Brilliant Speed will be announced upon completion of his career. A small number of shares are available for purchase and will be available for a limited time.
