The Green Monkey Sires First Winner

Record $16 million juvenile's daughter Kinz Funky Monkey wins at Del Mar Sept. 1.

The Green Monkey, the most expensive Thoroughbred sold at public auction, was represented by his first winner when his 2-year-old daughter Kinz Funky Monkey won at Del Mar Sept. 1 (VIDEO).

Racing for Always Believe Inc., Kinz Funky Monkey captured the 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race by a neck in 1:04.70. She had placed in her two previous starts.

Bred by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, Kinz Funky Monkey is the third winner from three foals of racing age out of the More Than Ready  mare Pretty Ready, whose offspring  includes stakes-placed Saint of Saints.

The Green Monkey (ForestryMagical Masquerade, by Unbridled) was bought for $16 million by Demi O’Byrne from Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds, agent, at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Florida February sale of 2-year-olds in training. The Green Monkey started three times, with his best effort coming in a third-place finish.

The Green Monkey, who stands at Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds near Ocala, Fla., has 24 registered 2-year-olds in his initial crop. He stood for $5,000 in 2012.
