Sixteen former jockeys will return to the saddle, including Hall of Fame rider Julie Krone, in the Clipper Logistics Legends Classified Stakes at Doncaster, England on opening day of the Ladbrokes St. Leger Festival Sept. 12. The race will be run in support of Jack Berry House and the redevelopment of the Northern Racing College.
Krone, who won the contest last year, will be up against multiple Irish champion Mick Kinane and English champion Kevin Darley, as well as George Duffield and John Reid, both St. Leger-winning jockeys.
The other competitors are: Gary Bardwell, Tony Clark, Nicky Connorton, Luke Harvey, Gay Kelleway, Allan Mackay, Tom O'Ryan, Jamie Osborne, Ollie Pears, and Willie Ryan. Alan McCabe is a reserve.
The event has been organized by the Professional Jockeys' Association's industry liaison officer and director Dale Gibson, who will additionally be riding in the race.
"The fundraising for this year's Clipper Logistics Legends Classified Stakes is going very well," said Gibson in a release. "It has been an ongoing project now for a couple of years and people have really taken to the idea. We will raise a minimum of £100,000 ($159,363 in United States funds) and that is guaranteed already."
