Three-Time Grade I Winner Get Stormy Retired

Turf specialist won or placed in 20 of 31 career starts.

Mary Sullivan's homebred Get Stormy , the winner of three grade I stakes on turf, has been retired and will enter stud next year, according to trainer Tom Bush.

A 6-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Stormy Atlantic  produced from the Kiri's Clown mare Foolish Gal, Get Stormy won or placed in 20 of 31 starts and earned $1,606,812 during five seasons of competition. Included among his nine stakes wins were victories in this year's Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap, the 2011 Maker's Mark Mile, and the 2011 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic, all grade I. In his final career start, Get Stormy finished third in the Aug. 11 Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT) at Saratoga Race Course.

"He is fine physically, although he had a little setback following the Fourstardave," Bush said Sept. 17. "Since he only had one more race on his schedule, we decided we needed to go ahead and start looking for a stud home for him."

Get Stormy won four other graded races during his career: the 2010 Fourstardave and Bernard Baruch Handicaps, both grade II, and the 2009 Bryan Station Stakes and Commonwealth Turf Stakes, both grade III.

Bush said there has been some interest in Get Stormy from breeding farms, but no deals have been reached.
