Injury Keeps Lakerville From Turf Sprint

Southern California sprinter has won four of six starts.

Crack turf sprinter Lakerville, winner of four of six starts including his debut at Santa Anita Park last year, will miss the $1 million Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (gr. IT) at Santa Anita on Nov. 3, trainer Barry Abrams said.

"He has a minor injury and he'll have some time off, but he wasn't nominated to the Breeders' Cup anyway," said Abrams, who won 10 races at the recent Del Mar meet, including two with Lakerville. "I was sick the day he was supposed to be nominated, and it would cost $130,000 to do it now."

Owned by Madeline Auerbach, Lakerville (Unusual HeatForeverinthegame, by Out of Place) has four wins and two seconds from six career starts and earnings of $212,540.

Abrams said he plans to have Lakerville back on the track by Jan. 1.
