Two New Track Records Set at Zia Park

Records came in consecutive races at New Mexico track.

Two track records were set at Zia Park in consecutive races Sept. 24, with new marks for the distances of 5 1/2 furlongs and 6 1/2 furlongs.

Pretend and Extend won the eighth race at 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14.73, besting the previous record of 1:15 set by Jungle Prince Dec. 4, 2005, closing day of the Hobbs, N.Mex., track's inaugural season. The 10 1/4-length victory in the $6,250 claiming race was the second in 19 starts for Pretend and Extend, who is owned by Harry Veruchi and trained by Jon Arnett. He was ridden by Alejandro Medellin.

That was followed in the ninth race by Jam'n Jackson winning at 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:01.42, which broke the previous record of 1:02 set by Rapper S S in October 2009. In winning the allowance optional claiming race by three-quarters of a length, Jam'n Jackson improved his record to five wins in 10 lifetime races. He is owned by Halord and Pamela Tillema, trained by Johnnie Nall, and was ridden by Enrique Gomez.
