Shkspeare Shaliyah won the Pilgrim Stakes in 2011.

With more wet weather expected in New York Oct. 7, the New York Racing Association plans to move a pair of Belmont Park graded stakes scheduled for the turf back a day Oct. 8.

The New York racing office noted that both races, the $150,000 Pilgrim Stakes (gr. IIIT) for 2-year-olds and the $150,000 Miss Grillo Stakes (gr. IIIT) for 2-year-old fillies, are Breeders' Cup "Win and You're In" events offering the respective winners an automatic berth to the Nov. 2-3 Breeders' Cup World Championships in their division at Santa Anita Park.

The move to the Columbus Day holiday Monday card should help ensure that the races remain on turf, said NYRA stakes coordinator Andrew Byrnes.

With recent rain in Elmont, N.Y., races were taken off the turf Oct. 3 and Oct. 4. NYRA will still present live racing at Belmont Oct. 7.
