Freshman Sire Frost Giant to Keane Stud

New York stallion ranks sixth nationally among freshman sires by progeny earnings.

Frost Giant , among the leading first-crop sires, will stand in 2013 at Keane Stud near Amenia, N.Y.

The 9-year-old son of 2012 leading sire Giant's Causeway  is owned by Sunset Stables. His fee will be $7,500.

Frost Giant ranks sixth on North America's first-crop sires' list with progeny earnings of more than $415,000. In New York, he ranks first among freshmen sires and second among all New York stallions by juvenile earnings.

"We are proud to announce the addition of such a popular young sire to our stallion roster," said Dr. Winslow Stevens, general manager of Keane Stud. "Frost Giant was a group winner at 2 and 3 in Ireland and a New York grade I winner on dirt. He certainly appears to be passing on his precocity and versatility to his runners."

Frost Giant, who won the Suburban Handicap (gr. I) at Belmont Park, is the sire of West Hills Giant, winner of the $247,338  New York Breeders' Futurity at six furlongs and a 1 1/16-mile turf race at Saratoga. Another stakes horse for the young sire, Zekes Surprise, ran third in the Aristie Stakes at Saratoga Race Course after a win at Belmont Park, both run over the main track.

Frost Giant, who is out of multiple stakes producer Takesmybreathaway (by Gone West), formerly stood at Vinery New York at Sugar Maple near Poughquag, N.Y.
