Champion Hansen to Stand at Ashford

Son of Tapit won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile to clinch championship honors.

Breeders' Cup winner and Eclipse Award winner Hansen has been purchased to stand at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky. A fee will be announced later.

By Tapit , Hansen was unbeaten as a 2-year-old, winning a 5 1/2-furlong maiden by 12 1/4 lengths and the listed Bluegrass Cat Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes by 13 1/4 lengths before defeating grade I-winning juveniles Union Rags , Creative Cause , and Dullahan in the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I).

This season Hansen cruised to a three-length win in the Gotham Stakes (gr. III) and took the Iowa Derby (gr. III) by 10 lengths from Louisiana Derby (gr. II) winner Hero of Order.

"Tapit has already proven himself a remarkable stallion in his relatively short career to date, and we're delighted to have secured his best son, Hansen, who is a very good looking horse," said Ashford's director of sales Charlie O'Connor. "Together with Uncle Mo and Lookin At Lucky  we now have the last three Eclipse Award-winning juveniles here at Ashford on a roster that also includes 2011 champion sires Giant's Causeway  and Scat Daddy."

Hansen, who was retired from racing in September, exited with a record of 5-2-0 from nine starts and earnings of $1,810,805.  He is out of the winning Sir Cat mare Stormy Sunday.
