Claiming Crown Nomination Deadline Nov. 9

The seven-race series is scheduled for Dec. 1 at Gulfstream Park in Florida.

The nomination deadline for the Claiming Crown at Gulfstream Park is Nov. 9.

This year's event, which will feature seven races worth a total of $850,000, is scheduled for Dec. 1, opening day of the Gulfstream 2012-13 meet.

Track officials said regular nominations for horses must be received or postmarked on or before Nov. 9. Earlier this year, 274 trainers each paid $100 for the right to nominate horses to the Claiming Crown.

"We're very excited at Gulfstream about hosting the Claiming Crown," Bork said. "The response from trainers earlier this year was overwhelming."

"With $850,000 in purses and the unprecedented hospitality Gulfstream Park has planned, this is a great opportunity for horsemen with eligible horses to nominate and be part of the 2012 Claiming Crown," said Dan Metzger, president of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, which partners with the National Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association on the Claiming Crown.

This year marks the first time the Claiming Crown will be held at Gulfstream. The event, launched in 1999, has been held mostly at Canterbury Park in Minnesota but also Ellis Park, Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, and Parx Racing.
