Astrology , a graded stakes winner at 2 and classic-placed at 3, has been retired from racing to stand at Taylor Made Stallions near Nicholasville, Ky. in 2013. His fee is $7,500 (stands and nurses).
Astrology is bred similarly to champion and major sire Bernardini , both being by A.P. Indy out of Quiet American mares.
After breaking his maiden over To Honor and Serve in a maiden special at Saratoga Race Course, Astrology won the one-mile Iroquois Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs before finishing a close runner-up in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. II). At 3, he was third in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) to Shackleford and Animal Kingdom , beaten just 1 3/4 lengths.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings and campaigned by Stonestreet Stables and George Bolton, Astrology retires with a record of 3-3-3 from 12 starts and earnings of $516,977.
"Astrology is one of the best-looking horses I've seen by A.P. Indy, who's one of the best sire of sires in the world, and he's bred identically to Bernardini," said Ben Taylor, vice president of Taylor Made Stallions. "Astrology was a top juvenile around one turn, and showed that he could stretch out his speed and quality to be a classic 3-year-old. We're thankful to Mrs. Barbara Banke (of Stonestreet), George Bolton, and the entire Stonestreet team for choosing Taylor Made."
Astrology is out of the winner Quiet Eclipse, dam of three other stakes winners including graded winner Lunarpal.
"Quiet Eclipse was a beautiful mare, and all of her foals were gorgeous," said John Moynihan of Stonestreet. "Astrology really stood out from Day 1 at the farm, and showed endless potential at every stage of his life. Stonestreet will surely get behind this horse with a number of our mares, and we'll look forward to trying to buy the ones that look like him in the sales ring."
Said trainer Steve Asmussen: "Astrology is an absolutely beautiful individual and very classic-looking. He had a ton of ability."
