Shackleford Available for Viewing Nov. 9-11

Darby Dan booking mares for Preakness, Met Mile winner for stallion duty in 2013.

Multiple Grade I winner Shackleford  will be available to breeders for viewing at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington Nov. 9-11 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The 4-year-old colt has not yet been retired from racing, although plans remain for him to stand at Darby Dan in 2013.

Darby Dan is in the process of booking mares to Shackleford for his upcoming stallion career, and hopes that all serious breeders will come out to the farm to inspect him this weekend.

"We wanted to give breeders the opportunity to see him," said Robert Hammond, general manager of Darby Dan. "Ever since his Met Mile win, the interest has been gratifying, and we anticipate a strong initial book of mares from accomplished breeders."

Trained by Dale Romans, Shackleford won the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) last year as a 3-year-old. He returned in 2012 to defeat a top field in the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. IT), and bested champion sprinter Amazombie in the Churchill Downs Stakes (gr. II) as a 4-year-old.

The son of Forestry out of the Unbridled mare Oatsee has earned $2,824,047 to date for owners Michael Lauffer, Bill Cubbedge, and Phillips Racing Partnership.
