Perfect Soul Returns to Darby Dan

His daughter Perfect Shirl won the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Charles Fipke's Perfect Soul , sire of 2011 Breeders' Cup winner Perfect Shirl, will stand in 2013 at John Phillips' Darby Dan Farm near Lexington for a fee of $7,500 stands and nurses.

The Irish-bred champion son of Sadler's Wells stood in 2012 at Norse Ridge Farm near King City, Ontario, Canada, after having stood all of his previous years at stud at Darby Dan.

Perfect Shirl, winner of last year's Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT), earned a career total of $1,390,729. She also won the Lake George Stakes (gr. IIT) at Saratoga and placed in four stakes, three of which were graded.

"Perfect Soul's proven to be a grade I winner and grade I sire, including siring a Breeders' Cup champion a year ago, and he's the last son of the breed-shaping sire Sadler's Wells standing in America," Phillips said. "We're grateful to Mr. Fipke to have Perfect Soul join our expanding roster for 2013."

While in Canada last year, Perfect Soul ranked as the country's leading sire with progeny earnings of more than $3.4 million. He has generated progeny earnings of more than $1.5 million for four consecutive years.

Perfect Soul has sired a total of 18 stakes horses and the earners of more than $8.6 million. His other stakes winners include Perfect Shower, winner of the Canadian classic Breeders' Stakes on turf, and 2011 multiple stakes winner Check Your Soul. His stakes- placed runners this year include California grade II performer Hog's Hollow and 2-year-old Tormenta Fiera, recent runner-up in the $250,400 Cup and Saucer Stakes on turf at Woodbine.

Perfect Soul, out of the Secretariat mare Ball Chairman, was Canada's grass champion in 2003. He won two graded stakes at Keeneland including the Shadwell Keeneland Turf Mile Stakes (gr. IT).
