Logo Unveiled for 138th Preakness Stakes

Design derived from classic logo horse type on the side of the Pimlico clubhouse.

The Maryland Jockey Club has unveiled the logo for the 2013 Preakness Stakes (gr. I) that will have its 138th renewal May 18 at Pimlico Race Course.

The 2013 Preakness logo draws on the classic logo horse type that is on the side of the Pimlico clubhouse entrance.

According to a release, "That horse combination was inspired by the 19th Century painting of the 'Great Race', an event which put Pimlico on the national sporting map."

The underline checkerboard pattern in the logo plays off of the Maryland state flag. Both features and the straightforward typeface translate the venerable nature of the middle jewel of the Triple Crown."

For the 14th consecutive year, the logo was designed by the Leffler Agency.

Tickets for Preakness 138 have been on sale since Oct. 15, with more information available at 138th Preakness tickets.
