Penn National Awarded 200 Dates for 2013

The Pennsylvania track as usual will race year-round three or four days a week.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course was awarded 200 live racing dates for 2013 in what amounts to the customary year-round schedule.

The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission approved the dates Nov. 15.

The track, located north of Harrisburg, will race from Jan. 3-Dec. 28. Live racing will be offered Thursdays through Saturdays through March 2, followed by a four-day-per-week schedule when Wednesdays are added for the remainder of the year.

First post time is set for 6 p.m. Eastern time each day.

The 2013 stakes schedule will be released at a later date, track officials said.

The PHRC also approved superfecta wagering on all races with at least six horses at Penn National. Superfecta wagering had been offered on only four races per program.

Penn National will have its final major stakes night of the year Nov. 21, when the highlight will be the $200,000 Fabulous Strike Handicap at six furlongs. It was called the Six Bits last year.

In all, the four stakes on the program are valued at $475,000.
