Rock Hard Ten Sold to Korea

Son of Kris S. has sired 10 graded stakes winners including grade I winner Nereid.

Rock Hard Ten, a multiple grade I winner who has stood at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky., since 2006, has been sold to stand at stud by the Korea Racing Authority. Bloodstock agent Rollin Baugh handled the sale of the 11-year-old stallion.

Rock Hard Ten (Kris S.--Tersa, by Mr. Prospector) was bred by Madeleine Paulson Pickens and raced for her in partnership with Ernie Moody's Mercedes Stable.

From four crops of racing age, Rock Hard Ten has sired 13 stakes winners. His 10 graded or group winners include 2011 American Oaks (gr. IT) winner Nereid. Rock Hard Ten's progeny earnings are more than $9.4 million. He has six stakes winners this year including graded winners Doubles Partner, Capital Plan, Lady Ten, and Utopian.

Rock Hard Ten's stud fee for 2012 was $20,000. With five crops of yearlings going through the auction ring, he had 199 yearlings sold for an average of $84,915.

A towering presence on the racetrack while standing 17.0 hands tall, Rock Hard Ten won seven of 11 starts in two seasons of racing. Rock Hard Ten won the Malibu Stakes (gr. I) and the Swaps Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) at 3 and the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I), the Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II), and the Strub Stakes (gr. II) at 4. Also during his 3-year-old season, he ran second in Smarty Jones ' Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and was third in the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I). His lifetime earnings are $1,870,380.

At the conclusion of his stud career, Rock Hard Ten will be returned to the United States.
