Ouzts Passes Longden on Leading Riders' List

Ohio-based jockey now 16th on all-time win list with 6,033.

Veteran jockey Perry Ouzts, 58, passed Hall of Famer John Longden on the all-time leading riders' list when he rode two winners at Turfway Park Nov. 29.

With the victoriesaboard Sok Sok in the fourth race and Wonka in the ninth, both trained by Susan AndersonOuzts is 16th among all jockeys with 6,033 wins.

Ouzts grew up in Rivervale, Ark., riding alongside jockey Earlie Fires, his cousin who has also been inducted into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame. Since riding his first winner in 1973 at Beulah Park aboard a horse named Rablu, Ouzts has taken 24 meet titles at River Downs, at least 11 from Beulah Park, and one riding title from Turfway.

Longden, who rode from 1927 through the mid-1960s and was the first to hit the 6,000-win mark, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1958.

At Turfway on Sept. 29 of this year, Ouzts became the 17th jockey to record 6,000 victories.
