Thunder Moccasin, the undefeated winner of this year's Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II), has been retired from racing and will stand in 2013 at the Appleton family's Bridlewood Farm near Ocala, Fla.
The 3-year-old son of A. P. Warrior will stand for $2,500 stands and nurses.
Thunder Moccasin won his 2-year-old debut in one of the fastest maiden races recorded at last year's Gulfstream Park meet. He ran the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.81, earning a 97 Beyer speed figure. In his second start, Thunder Moccasin won the Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) at Gulfstream by 6 3/4 lengths.
"Thunder Moccasin is just the right type for what the Florida breeders are hungry for," said George G. Isaacs, general manager of Bridlewood. "He is a tremendous physical and showed brilliance on the racetrack."
Trained by Todd Pletcher for Starlight Racing, Thunder Moccasin was retired with earnings of $114,300 from those two starts.
"Thunder Moccasin was as fast as anything we had in the barn last winter in Florida, and his impressive maiden and Hutcheson wins validated how extremely talented he is," said trainer Todd Pletcher.
Thunder Moccasin is out of the winning Storm Cat mare One Stormy Mama.
