Lopez Taken to Hospital After Gulfstream Fall

Jockey complained of back pain after mount in second race clips heels and trips.

Jockey Paco Lopez was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital Dec. 2 complaining of back pain after being thrown in the second race at Gulfstream Park.

Lopez went down when his mount, Tiznow Mytime, clipped heels and tripped going down the backstretch in the six-furlong main track race for $6,250 claiming horses. Jockey Pedro Monterrey Jr. was unseated from his mount, Personal Good, while trying to avoid the fallen horse. Monterrey escaped injury.

Lopez had full movement and both horses returned safely, track officials reported.
