Three Stallions for Sovereign Farm of Ocala

Owners Mary-Beth Stanton and Dani Dougherty scheduled a stallion preview Dec. 15.

A new Ocala, Fla., area farm named Sovereign Farm of Ocala will stand three stallions in 2013 in graded stakes winners Field Commission , Backtalk , and Motovato.

Mary Beth Stanton, DVM, and Dani Dougherty, who will serve as stallion farm manager, are partners in the new operation. The new farm will offer a stallion preview Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

After standing his initial season at stud at Vinery Florida, grade II winner Backtalk will move to Sovereign where he will stand for $3,000. A 5-year-old Smarty Jones  horse, Backtalk captured the Sanford Stakes (gr. II) as a juvenile at Saratoga Race Course among his three stakes victories. Out of stakes-winning Affirmed mare Apasionata Sonata, Backtalk is a half brother to two-time grade II winner Bsharpsonata.

Also moving to Sovereign next season is grade III winner Motovato, who stood his initial year in 2012 at Stonewall Farm Ocala. The 7-year-old Proud Citizen horse won the 2009 Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap (gr. III) at Calder Casino & Race Course. Out of stakes-placed Slew City Slew mare Buffalo Bird Woman, Motovato will stand for $4,500.

The farm also will stand millionaire Field Commission, who retired from racing after this season and will have a $2,500 fee. The 7-year-old Service Stripe horse earned champion sprinter honors in Canada in 2009 when he won the Nearctic Stakes (Can-IIT) and Vigil Stakes (Can-II). Field Commission is out of the Schossberg mare Tearfull Moment.
