Storms Lead to Fair Grounds Cancellation

Racing scheduled to resume Friday, Jan. 11, at New Orleans track.

Live racing at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots was canceled Jan. 10 due to severe thunderstorms throughout the New Orleans area.

The state and track stewards made the final decision in consultation with Fair Grounds officials at 12:30 p.m. CDT, a half-hour before the scheduled first post, according to a release from the track. The Fair Grounds OTB and all 10 Fair Grounds OTB casino locations remained open for simulcasting, and the Fair Grounds Slots facility also remained open.

Live racing is scheduled to resume Jan. 11 with a nine-race program beginning at 1 p.m.

The forecast for the Jan. 12 special program featuring zebra, ostrich, and mascot racing calls for partly cloudy skies, with only a slight chance of rain and a high of 72 degrees. First post for that expanded 13-race card is set for 2 p.m. with the exotic animal racing after 6 p.m.
