Mucho Macho Man Exercises at Gulfstream

Mucho Macho Man in good health after being eased in Sunshine Millions Classic.

Eased in the $400,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Classic Stakes Jan. 19 at Gulfstream Park, Mucho Macho Man  came out of that 1 1/8-mile race for Florida-breds in good order.

Trainer Kathy Ritvo acknowledged she was concerned after the three-time grade III winner was eased after being sent off as 2-5 favorite in the race that would be won by Ron the Greek in 1:49.19 on a sloppy track. Ritvo said the 5-year-old Macho Uno  horse came out of the race in good order and was able to return to his regular training schedule at Gulfstream.

"He went out this morning," Ritvo said Jan. 21. "He's feeling great."

Ritvo concluded that the sloppy track was the reason for the uncharacteristic performance of Reeves Thoroughbred Racing's Mucho Macho Man. In his only other career start on a sloppy track, Mucho Macho Man finished a troubled seventh in the 2011 Belmont Stakes (gr. I).

"I thought it was the bumping coming out of the gate, but I guess it might have been the track," Ritvo said.
