Old Tune's Record Time in Endeavour Rescinded

Upon further review, the course-record time credited to Old Tune in winning the Endeavour Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Tampa Bay Downs Feb. 2 has been rescinded, the track announced the day following the race.

The displayed running times for each of the turf races on the Saturday card at Tampa Bay have been revised upon discovery of an error by Trakus, the electronic tracking and timing company used by the track. The revised times also affected the final clocking for the Florida Oaks (gr. IIIT).

The Trakus charts, Teleview times, and hand-held times were in agreement, but the posted display times were announced on-track and published by Equibase before the discrepancy was discovered late Saturday night.

Instead of setting a 1 1/16-mile turf track record in the $150,000 Endeavour, as was announced after the race, 5-year-old mare Old Tune officially ran the distance in 1:41.48. The official time is 1.22 seconds off My Lordship’s 2006 stakes record and almost two seconds slower than Legs Galore’s still-standing track record of 1:39.65, set in the 1999 Tampa Bay breeders’ Cup.

The fractional times for the Endeavour have been revised to :24.07 for the quarter mile, :48.05 for the half, 1:11.84 for six furlongs and 1:35.56 for the mile.

In the $150,000 Florida Oaks for 3-year-old fillies, the revised time of 1:41.89 for the victorious Tapicat remains a stakes record, eclipsing the 1:43.30 mark of 2012 winner Dixie Strike. Saturday was only the third time the Florida Oaks has been run on the turf. The revised fractional times for the Florida Oaks are :24.41, :48.59, 1:12.11 and 1:35.94.

In a statement released later Feb. 3, Trakus said:

"As reported by Tampa Bay Downs on Sunday, sectional times from turf races during Saturday's Festival Preview Day card as displayed on the track's simulcast signal were referenced to an incorrect lane assignment in the production graphics and onsite tote boards. This resulted in a bias error of approximately -2 seconds, erroneously too fast. Also as reported by the track and other press, despite the incorrect sectionals displayed on the simulcast the Trakus System live race tracking performance was accurate and verified, and the Trakus charts available at TampaBayDowns.com provided consistent and correct sectional times for all races.

"As a consequence, the reporting error on the simulcast feed was initially picked up by the Equibase charts, and subsequently corrected once the simulcast graphics setting was identified, replays reviewed, and adjusted to the proper lane configuration.

"Trakus sincerely regrets any confusion caused as a result."
