Grade II Winner Soldat Retired

Son of War Front scored biggest win in the grade II Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth.

Soldat , a grade II winner by War Front , has been retired from racing because of a suspensory injury. He remains with trainer Kiaran McLaughlin at Palm Meadows in Florida. Breeding plans are undecided.

In what was his last start, 5-year-old Soldat ran fourth, beaten a half-length, in the Hal's Hope Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park Jan. 13 for owners Harvey A. Clarke, W. Craig Robertson III, Paul Braverman, and Namcook Stable.

Soldat scored his biggest win at Gulfstream at 3, capturing the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) after beginning the year with a 10 3/4-length win at the track. Two races later, he ran 11th in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

At 2 Soldat won the With Anticipation Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Saratoga and ran second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IIT) and the Pilgrim Stakes (gr. IIIT).

Soldat chalked up a career record of 4-4-0 from 12 starts and earnings of $622,760 while trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.

Bred in Kentucky by Brookfield Stud, Soldat is the first foal out of the unraced Coronado's Quest mare Le Relais, whose second foal is stakes-placed My Selection. Le Relais is a half sister to Canadian graded stakes winner Mulrainy.
