Red Piano Brings $150,000 at F-T Winter Sale

Daughter of Red Ransom was bought by Jayne Johnson, agent, from Hunter Valley Farm.

Red Piano, a winning daughter of Red Ransom, fetched $150,000 from Jayne Johnson, agent, early during the Fasig-Tipton February winter mixed sale in Lexington Feb. 11. Consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent as Hip No. 5, she is in foal to Exchange Rate.

Red Piano’s dam, Spinet (by Nureyev), is a half sister to Irish champion miler Prince of Birds (by Storm Bird), winner of the 1988 Airlie Coolmore Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) and the Dermot McCalmont Tetrarch (Ire-III).

Bred in Kentucky, Red Piano was last bought for $5,000 by Sun Valley Farm at the 2010 Keeneland November breeding stock sale from her breeder, Vinery, agent.

The bay mare is the dam of four foals, two of which are winners, including stakes victor Pianist (by More Than Ready ). An earner of more than $200,000, Pianist captured the 2012 Given Stakes at Belmont Park.

Pianist fetched $100,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale from Hidden Brook, agent when consigned by Vinery, agent.

Red Piano’s youngest offspring is an Any Given Saturday yearling filly named Sunday Sonnet.

That filly brought $42,000 from Mr. and Mrs. Mark Ferrell at the 2012 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. She was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
