Frankel Begins New Stallion Career This Week

Undefeated Frankel begins career as stallion later this week at Banstead Manor Stud.

Juddmonte Farms released Feb. 11 more details about Frankel's impressive 2013 book of mares as the champion racehorse begins his new career as a stallion later this week at Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket, England.

Frankel, who won all 14 of his races, will be visited by an outstanding lineup of mares, including around 60 who have either won a group/grade I race, produced a group/grade I winner, or both.

In addition to the high-class mares previously listed, Frankel's book includes several dams of European classic winners, namely Flirtation (dam of English and Irish One Thousand Guineas winner Attraction), Honorine (dam of Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach), Lady Vettori (dam of Poule d'Essai des Poulains, French Two Thousand Guineas, and Prix du Jockey Club, French Derby, winner Lope de Vega), Maycocks Bay (dam of English/Irish Oaks winner Sariska), Musical Treat (dam of English and Irish One Thousand Guineas winner Finsceal Beo), Quest To Peak (dam of English and Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, French One Thousand Guineas, winner Special Duty), Soignee (dam of French Oaks winner Stacelita), Waldmark (dam of St. Leger winner Masked Marvel) and Zomaradah (dam of Irish Two Thousand Guineas winner Dubawi).

"His book of mares is as one would hope and expect for the best racehorse ever," said Juddmonte Farms general manager Philip Mitchell. "We are most grateful to all the breeders in Europe, America, and Japan who have put their faith in Frankel. And, as a result, we have one of the most impressive books of mares that a first-season sire has received."

Simon Mockridge is the stud manager at Banstead Manor Stud and is responsible for the management of Frankel.

"Frankel has really pleased us since arriving at the stud last November," Mockridge said. "He settled in very quickly and showed us from the start that he is an alpha male.

"He is an intelligent horse with an active mind, and physically he looks really well in himself. Just as when he was a racehorse, his appetite is fantastic. He has already put on 45 kilograms (about 99 pounds) since his arrival.

"Like the other stallions here, he will be very busy from this week until the end of June. But his preparatory exercise has gone well and we are looking forward to him starting his stud career."
