Dual English Classic Winner Kazzia Dies

Godolphin filly won the English One Thousand Guineas and Oaks.

Kazzia, the sole filly to win both the English One Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) and the English Oaks (Eng-I) since Salsabil in 1990, has died after foaling a Dubawi filly at Sheikh Mohammed's Dalham Hall Stud near Newmarket, England. The German-bred mare (ZinaadKhoruna, by Lagunas) was 14.

Racing for Godolphin, Kazzia won the 2002 Sagitta One Thousand Guineas and the Vodafone Epsom Oaks in back-to-back starts and was Europe's champion 3-year-old filly. She raced twice in North America, winning the Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (gr. IT) and finishing sixth in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf (gr. IT).

Kazzia produced three stakes winners including group winners Eastern Anthem and Zeitoper. By Singspiel, Eastern Anthem won the 2009 Dubai Sheema Classic Sponsored by Nakheel (UAE-I) and was a highweight in Dubai.
