Irish Jockey Fractures Two Vertebrae in Fall

JT McNamara in medically induced coma following fall at Cheltenham Festival.

A doctor says Irish jockey J.T. McNamara is in a medically induced coma after fracturing two vertebrae in his neck following a fall from his horse at the Cheltenham Festival.

The 37-year-old McNamara was airlifted to a hospital after coming off Galaxy Rock in a race March 14.

Dr. Adrian McGoldrick, senior medical officer of the Irish Turf Club, says in a statement released Friday that McNamara he has been joined by his wife, Caroline. McGoldrick said there will be no further update on McNamara's condition until March 16.
