Beholder Works 7 Panels for Santa Anita Oaks

Champion filly "ready to go" for April 6 race, says trainer Richard Mandella.

Champion 2-year-old filly Beholder worked seven furlongs in company on a fast main track at Santa Anita Park March 29 as she closes in on her next scheduled start in the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I).

With regular rider Garrett Gomez up, the daughter of Henny Hughes was clocked in 1:26 3/5, while stablemate Sarach was timed a second slower. It was the third published workout for last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) winner since she scored a scintillating 3 3/4-length victory in the Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) March 2.

Her immediate goal is the Santa Anita Oaks April 6, with a possible date in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) looming a month later.

"She worked a nice, steady seven-eighths," Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella said. "She's ready to go."

Owned by Spendthrift Farm, Beholder has four wins and two seconds from seven lifetime starts with earnings of nearly $1.4 million.
