Lezcano Likely to Ride Wise Dan at Keeneland

The move was facilitated by an injury to regular rider John Velazquez.

Jose Lezcano most likely will ride Wise Dan in the Maker's 46 Mile Stakes (gr. IT) at Keeneland April 12, trainer Charles LoPresti said.

The jockey switch is necessary in light of an injury to regular rider John Velazquez, who fractured a rib and chipped a wrist bone in spill at Aqueduct Racetrack April 7.

Wise Dan, the 2012 Horse of the Year, champion older horse, and champion turf male, will make his 2013 debut in the Maker's 46 Mile.

"I know (owner Morton) Fink wants Lezcano to ride him," LoPresti said. "If something happens to where Lezcano can't ride, it would be Julien Leparoux."

Lezcano and Leparoux have both ridden Wise Dan, a 6-year-old Wiseman's Ferry gelding.

Lezcano rode him once, a victory in the Shadwell Turf Mile (gr. IT) at Keeneland last fall. Leparoux has ridden Wise Dan six times, including a victory in the Fayette Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland in 2011.
