First Winner for Freshman Sire Idiot Proof

Grade I-winning son of Benchmark stands at Ballena Vista Farm.

Freshman sire Idiot Proof was represented by his first winner March 18 when the 2-year-old filly On Autopilot won the first race at Mexico's Hipodromo de las Americas.

Trained by Enrique Garcia Perez for owner Cuadra Phoenix, On Autopilot raced the 2 1/2 furlongs in :27.3 while winning by 3 1/2 lengths in her career debut. Produced from the stakes-winning Half Term mare Wingless Flight, On Autopilot was bred in California by James Weigel.

A 9-year-old son of Benchmark bred and raced by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wygod, Idiot Proof won the 2007 Ancient Title Stakes (gr. I) and earned $1,294,484. He stands at Karen and Don Coh's Ballena Vista Farm in Ramona, Calif., for a 2013 fee of $1,500.
