Favorite Disposablepleasure Takes Sixty Sails

Trained by Todd Pletcher, the daughter of Giacomo has now won both of her 2013 races.

Disposablepleasure scored her second straight victory of 2013 when she kicked clear in upper stretch and prevailed by an easy 1 1/2 lengths over Brushed by a Star in the $200,000 Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) April 20 at Hawthorne Racecourse (VIDEO) .

Trained by Todd Pletcher for John Greathouse's Glencrest Farm, the favored daughter of Giacomo is back on a roll after being sidelined for five months. In her first start back, she won a March 17 allowance optional claiming race at Gulfstream Park.

Previous to that, Disposablepleasure went through a seven-race losing streak, but she did hit the board in the 2012 Mother Goose (gr. I), Black-Eyed Susan (gr. II), and Fair Grounds Oaks Stakes (gr. II). The flashy gray or roan filly notched her first stakes victory as a 2-year-old in the Demoiselle Stakes (gr. II).

In all, she now holds a record of 4-3-1 from 13 starts for earnings of $515,460. Bred in Kentucky by Doug Branham, she was a $45,000 purchase at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky select yearling sale. The 4-year-old filly is out of the With Approval mare My Canada.

In the Sixty Sails, 22-1 shot Devious Intent raced in front for three-quarters of a mile, with Little Ms Protocol and Disposablepleasure trailing closely behind. Fractions were :23.89, :48.51, and 1:13.58.

Disposablepleasure, ridden by Javier Castellano, asserted herself coming off the far turn to take the advantage. Brushed by a Star, after shifting out four deep nearing the quarter mile marker while being roused to advance, then shifted inward under pressure and gained a clear second in the stretch.

In the end, however, Brushed by a Star couldn't gain terms with Disposablepleasure, who completed the 1 1/18-mile distance on a fast track under Castellano in 1:50.19.

"I think I had the best horse and the best trip," said Castellano. "When she got to the top of the stretch and I asked her she took off. I really liked the way she ran. She galloped out strong."

Second choice Brushed by a Star was second, six lengths in front of 10-1 shot Little Ms Protocol. Devious Intent checked in fourth, followed by Royal Lahaina and Maude S.

"I had a great trip, sitting right behind the leaders," said Brushed by a Star's jockey Corey Lanerie. "I tried to make my move at the top of the lane and get close to the eventual winner, but she was just too good today."

Disposablepleasure, who went off at odds of 6-5, paid $4.40, $2.60, and $2.20. Brushed by a Star (8-5) returned $2.60 and $2.20, while Little Ms Protocol paid $3.20 to show. The exacta paid $9.20, while the $1 trifecta returned $18.40.
