Oaks Day Update; Fear the Kitten Scratched

Several horses also withdrawn from stakes May 3 program at Churchill Downs.

Entered as the one also-eligible horse for this year's Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), Fear the Kitten was scratched Friday morning from the Saturday, May 4 classic at Churchill Downs.

Some gray clouds hovered over fans arriving early for the May 3 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I), with temperatures in the mid-60s and a high of 75 degrees predicted. Despite the clouds, the forecast listed just a 20% chance of rain.

Early scratches from stakes races on Friday's Oaks card include Flashy Gray from the Oaks, I'll Call and Redwood Kitten from the American Turf Stakes (gr. IIT), Spring Venture from the Eight Belles Stakes (gr. III), and Emotional Kitten from the Edgewood Stakes.

Derby starter Lines of Battle ventured onto the track for the first time Friday morning, turning in an enthusiastic gallop. The Kentucky-bred son of War Front  arrived from Ireland on Wednesday and entered the quarantine area at Barn 48.

Joseph Allen, Michael Tabor, Susan Magnier, and Derrick Smith's Lines of Battle won this year's UAE Derby (UAE-II) at Meydan.
