Bellarmine Won't Compete in Preakness Stakes

The winner of an allowance race May 4 at Churchill was on early list.

Magdalena Racing's Bellarmine, winner of an entry-level allowance race for 3-year-olds at Churchill Downs May 4, won't compete in the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), trainer Ken McPeek said May 7.

Bellarmine, a Kentucky-bred by Magna Graduate , was on the early list of possible starters for the Preakness, which will be run May 18. In the Churchill allowance race he defeated Code West, who finished a close second in the Risen Star Stakes (gr. II) earlier this year.

"Bellarmine is no-go for the Preakness," McPeek said via Twitter.

Meanwhile, the Maryland Jockey Club said Goldencents , who finished 17th of 19 in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), arrived at Pimlico Race Course at about 1:30 a.m. EDT May 7. The Into Mischief  colt was the first to arrive at Pimlico in advance of the Preakness.
